Depression doesn't take a holiday.

Mood disorders don't take a holiday. While most people are celebrating, those of us with mood disorders often just want to crawl under the covers.

That's why MDAO needs your help now more than ever. Please donate.

Make an online donation today! You can also make donations by fax or by mail by using this form.

Donate to Touched by Fire

When we began Touched By Fire, we were optimistic about its success, but the program has already exceeded every expectation. The response from artists has been extraordinary in both quantity and quality - and the involvement of the public has been wonderful as well. Last year, more than 60% of all the artists' work was sold; and the word of mouth regarding the merit of the art has been unending.

We have a major success story on our hands, and we want to build on it. We know that Touched By Fire is working, and we envision not only the maintenance of our existing program, but its expansion.

We ask for your help in this. Please donate today.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why does MDAO require private funding? Isn't your organization funded by the government?
A. MDAO does receive some funding from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the City of Toronto, as well as some project funding from foundations. Those resources alone, however, do not cover the cost of the meeting increasing demand for MDAO programs and services across the province. Private support is essential to MDAO's ability to continue to provide peer support, education and information referral, advocacy, and resources to people with mood disorders, their families, and the community.

Q. Are gifts to MDAO tax deductible?
A. Your gift to MDAO may be eligible for a charitable tax deduction. When you make a gift, we will send an acknowledgement of your donation and provide a tax receipt if applicable. Keep this receipt for your records. Bequests, gifts of life insurance, securities, real estate or other assets can also offer significant tax benefits. We would be pleased to discuss your specific circumstances with you.

Q. Can I designate my gift to a specific program?
A. Yes. Gifts made to MDAO can be designated to the program or fund of your choice. There are a number of choices available to donors including support for on-going groups in Toronto and across the province; conference and education support; and a number of fund options.

Q. What payment options are available if I want to make a donation?
A. MDAO is pleased to accept online donations through PayPal or credit card. Gifts can also be made by downloading our membership and donations form and mailing in a cheque, money order or your credit card information.

Gifts can be also made in person or by calling our office toll free at 1-888-486-8236. Planned giving is facilitated by our Director of Development, Ellen Ostofsky, available at 416-486-8046 extension 229. We appreciate all gifts and will create a plan that is right for you, including receiving monthly, semi monthly or annual donations.

Finding Lily: A Memoir by Richard Clewes
"Life goes on," offered friends and family. But to ad man Richard Clewes - caught emotionally unawares in the brutal and raw aftermath of his wife's suicide, finding a new way to live meant leaving the safe confines of a familiar life and embarking on a physical- and spiritual- quest. Thus began a six-month, round-the-world sojourn - armed with not much else but his grief, his confusion, and a sketch pad. Part travelogue, part contemplation, Finding Lily is a rich visual record in words and illustrated postcards.
